4 Pedaling Zones
Do it right

Zone 1
This is the zone between 12 o'clock and 5 o'clock. Ideally, you should point your ankle 20 degrees downward in this zone.

Zone 2
This is the transition zone. Tighten your shin so that your toes point 20 degrees upward (as if you were sweeping dirt off your heel) but keep your foot steady on the pedal.

Zone 3
The foot is lifted by the momentum of the pedal and without much weight on the muscles, so you don't lose power.

Zone 4
Return to the downward movement of zone 1 at 12 o'clock. Don't wait until 3 o'clock (as many do) because you will lose momentum and power.
